We attended an excellent teaching workship in France. This looked at advanced injection techniques using cadavers. It is interesting to see that actual facial muscles do not correspond to some text books. It did re-inforce our knowledge and it was fascinating to compare the french style of using botulinum toxin compared with what we do in the UK.

An increasing number of clients have told us that they have been offered ‘botox’ treatment from unqualified non professional ‘friends’.
These people are most likely operating illegally as all botox type products are prescription medicines and may only be prescibed on a patient basis by a doctor or specially qualified health professional.
Products sourced from the internet have been proven to be fake. You could be injected with totally unregulated, non sterile and contaminated substances. In addition, poor injection technique can lead to a terrible result and, possibly, serious cross infections.

Thread Vein Treatments: NO DEAL?

At SkinQure we have a 532nm laser that safely and effectively targets thread vein on your face and legs. We have clients who have had ineffective treatments at other clinics and the reason is that the IPL or laser being used is not specific to thread vein treatment and, therefore, the necessary energy needed to destroy the vein is not delivered into the thread veins.
Often salons will offer ‘deals’ on IPL/laser treatments but often these ‘deals’ will not offer effectve, safe treatment. The most common side effect is buring and loss of pigmentation.

We often get enquries about how much our treatments cost. Many potential clients, quite understandably, ring around for quotes and are often offered a few extra pounds off as an incentive to go for treatment with a certain practitioner.
We offer fair prices which represent excellent value but we will not be the cheapest. Our aim is to offer Professional care , quality products and value for money. Excellence never comes cheap but it doesnt have to be ultra expensive either.
When choosing a practitoner we would urge you to consider, not just the price but the overall package. There are 160 fillers on the market in the UK, we use only those that are well tested.
Treatments to remove frown lines are NOT all the same, again there are different products on the market and the effectiveness and longevity of the treatment will depend on how may units are actually used. A cheap deal may actually end up being more expensive.

Skinqure has been established ten years and Dr Charlson has done thousands of treatments. Practitoners who are new to the market have nothing like the same experience or knowledge of different techniques.
Injections into the face are not routine beauty treatments and should not be regarded as such.

Price Wars – PIP breast implant scandal

As the market in cosmetic products such as botox and fillers heats up some clinics cut prices. Unfortunately they can also cut corners. If a clinic provides a cheap treatment ask yourself how they can achieve this?. Perhaps they use lower doses of botox which wont last very long or buy filler cheaply on the internet. Do they provide any aftercare as part of the service? or free tune ups? or do they simply do a cheap job take your money and disappear? How do they dispose of their sharps? Are they operating in a clinical environment? What is their training? Can they prescribe medication if there is a problem?
Even in the best hands procedures can go wrong and you need a trained professional to address this. Bargains are not necessarily the best option as the recent implant scare has illustrated.

Regulation

Understandably, the PIP implants scandal has caused a great deal of distress to many women, it has also brought into sharp focus the lack of regulation within the cosmetic industry in general. A select commitee of MPs is now investigating regulation of the cosmetic industry which contains many anomalies. For example, mobile practitioners are not subject to any regulation and doctors operating lasers for medical complaints are subject to regulation whereas other laser operatives are not.

It is always advisable to consult a registered medical professional as they are bound by their professional codes of ethics and professional standards and regulated by a professional body such as the General Medical Council (GMC)

No cosmetic procedure should be entered into lightly, you should always understand both the benefits of treatment and the possible side effects and drawbacks. In addition, products should be sourced from a reliable supplier as many fake prodcuts are available on the internet.

FILLERS: unregulated, unprofessional

Following the recent breast implant scare patients are being warned about the unregulated use of fillers by unprofessional, untrained practitioners. Sally Taber of the Independent Healthcare Advisory Service is urging government to protect patients and stop further scandal.

As the law stands fillers are not regarded as medicines and therefore they are not subject to the same standards of testing and regulation as medicines such as Botox. Fillers can be imported from an unknown source and contain unknown
unsafe ingredients. They are then injected by someone who has little or no training. There has already been a large increase in complications from fillers requiring surgery.

There are only six fillers licensed for use in the USA
compared with 160 certified in the UK and others which are
used without any safe guards.

Dr Charlson only uses licensed fillers and is highly trained and experienced in injecting fillers. ‘If a deal seems to too good to be true , it probably is, I would urge anyone
considering treatment to consider safety and professional
care before saving a few pounds and ending up with a disaster ‘
